‘Between Your Teeth’
Friends of the Family
Ailbhe Reddy is an emerging alt-folk singer from Dublin, and she seemed poised to take the world by storm, having already earned all kinds of praise and whatnot from the likes of the BBC6, Clash, and others in the UK and Ireland. ‘Between Your Teeth‘ is the lead single off her upcoming début album, Personal History, out in October. Personal History is three years in the making, and will find her ruminating on the rites of passage in life as a young, emerging queer artist in Ireland, a country which has undergone somewhat of a cultural revolution in the past couple of decades.
She is helped out on production on ‘Between Your Teeth’ by Erland Cooper and Tommy McLaughlin, perhaps better known for producing SOAK and performing in her band. As I note, she is described as alt-folk, but this is a rock’n’roll track. Reddy’s voice, powerful and strong, is also reminiscent of the late Delores O’Riordan. The guitars are pretty and shimmery, as Reddy looks at a troubled romance as it disintegrates.
This is a gorgeous song, and I am already stoked for Personal History. This is not the last we shall hear of Ailbhe Reddy.
